10 Tips to Conquer a Bridal Show

So you have the man, the ring, and the biggest smile on your face…what else could you possibly need??

Well everything, of course. Luckily there is a one stop shop for all things wedding- the Annual Georgetown Bridal Show! It may sound overwhelming, but with these tips, you can walk out knowing that you have everything under control.

1. Pre-Register

The link to our Bridal Show on February 22nd is http://georgetownbridalshow.com/register/ (You can also win prizes by registering early!)

2. Eat a Small Meal Beforehand

You know you are in for a ton of samples, but have a small meal before you head out. That way you will know what really tastes good if you aren’t a ravenous beast!

3. Wear Comfy Shoes

You will be doing a ton of walking. Save the heels for your big day! Comfort is key.

4. Bring a Friend

You will want second (or maybe even third and fourth opinions) on each vendor you see. Of course the choice is all yours, but friends can be helpful to bounce ideas off of, and to cover more ground!

5. Make a Check-list

Venues, caterers, cakes, honeymoon, decorations…the list seems to go on and on! But with a guideline, you know for sure you can hit all of the essentials.

6. Bring Business Cards

Don’t waste time writing down your contact information at every booth! Have a supply of cards handy to make the info swap less of a hassle!

7. Bring a Color Swatch

Fabric swatches of your wedding colors can always come in handy if you come across and accessory booth, so you can find the perfect bridesmaid necklaces, or flower girl basket!

8. Have your planner or Calendar app handy

You may need to set up other tastings and meetings with each vendor, so to be sure you don’t forget about all your obligations, use your calendar app or planner!

9. Leave Before You Can’t Take Anymore-

Don’t leave wishing you never have to think about weddings again! It’s inevitable that you will need to sort through all of the brochures and handouts you collected once you get home. So shop around until you almost drop!

10. Demand a Foot Rub-

You have had a long, successful and conquering day! The only thing you need now is a foot rub for a job well done.

Trending: Unity Trees

First it was candles, then it was sand, now it is time for unity trees!

Instead of a Unity photo 1208670-1

When it comes time to do the unity part of the ceremony, the couple comes over to another table where the tree, some dirt, and some water are placed, and plant their tree in a pot. (I suggest the bride handling the water and having minimal dirt involved). Some couples choose to bring dirt from each of their parents’ houses as a symbol of the families joining. If you need help on introducing your guests to what you are about to do, here are some wording suggestions.

The tree can be planted in the ground later at the newlyweds’ house, that way the tree can grow as their relationship continues to grow!

Friday Five: Wedding Flowers for Spring

Spring has sprung! Trees are budding, the weather is beautiful and flowers are blooming! Not to mention its Friday, which means its time for another Friday Five! One of the great things about having a wedding in the Spring is all of the fun flower choices. So here are five beautiful, in season flowers to make your big day even more beautiful!

#1 Anemones

Anemones are gorgeous and available in a wide variety of colors. However, they are more expensive flowers. If you love anemones but it doesn’t fit into your budget to have a large bouquet of them, try adding a few anemones to a bouquet of less expensive flowers. You will get the look of anemones with a price that fits comfortably in your budget.

#2 Sweet Peas

Scented Sweet Peas

Sweet Peas also come in a variety of colors. They look lovely in a bouquet by themselves or mixed in with other spring flowers.

#3 Peonies

Peonies are another type of flower that bloom in the Spring. They are beautiful but can also be pricey. Mixing them into a bouquet with lots of greenery and other flowers can help you achieve the look for less.

#4 Irises

For a less expensive yet distinctive look, irises are a great choice. Pictured are purple and white irises but they are also available in other colors. They look great mixed into a bouquet with other flowers and can play a lead or supporting role in the bouquet.

#5 Tulips

Tulips are a classic Spring wedding flower! They are a less pricey yet beautiful option for wedding flowers.

And that is your Friday Five, now please go outside and enjoy this beautiful Spring day!

Easy DIY Centerpieces for Any Season

Recently we had a photo shoot to get great pictures of our brand new icicle lights!

Event Center

We also had a representative from Google come to shoot a virtual tour!

We wanted to set up the Georgetown Event Center like a wedding reception to give you an idea about what it can look like for your reception. In order to do that we needed some great centerpieces, so we enlisted the help of our friends at Casa Linda Florals! The owner created some amazing centerpieces and was kind enough to show us how to do them! I was amazed at how easy they were to create and how you could use them for a wedding in any season!

The first centerpiece is a sunken glowing rose centerpiece. It looks beautiful and guests will be asking how you did it! You can use any kind of flower that you want to make it match your reception!

So here is what you will need:
– A vase
– Clear stones or beads
– A submersible LED light
– A rose (or any flower of your choice)
– A pin
– Water

First attach the bottom of the rose stem to the led light (that is already turned on) and put in the vase. Then carefully add as many clear stones as you would like without harming the rose. Next, VERY CAREFULLY and slowly add water to the vase making sure to pour from the side of the vase so as not to hit the petals. Pour until the flower is completely covered by the water. And Viola! You have your very own glowing sunken flower centerpiece!

Glowing Sunken Rose Centerpiece! You need a vase, clear stones or beads, a submersible led light, a rose and water. First attach the rose to the led light and put in the vase. Then carefully add as many clear stones as you would like without harming the rose. Next, VERY CAREFULLY and slowly add water to the vase making sure to pour from the side of the vase so as not to hit the petals.

It looks great with the lights on and the lights off!

The next centerpiece is EVEN easier!

I like to call this a beautiful branches centerpiece. It is so easy yet so beautiful and elegant and could work for any kind of wedding. The pebbles could be traded out for stones in any color. Also these birch branches could be traded out for branches from a flowering tree during your wedding season (maybe branches from a cherry tree that has cherry blossoms on it!)

So here is what you will need:
– A vase
– Gravel or pebbles (or any kind of stone you want)
– Tree branches (birch is pictured but you can use any kind you want)
– Hanging votive or tealight candle holders
– Votive or tealight candles (real or LED)

Fill the vase as full as you want with your stones. Then insert as many branches as you want into vase. Next hang the candle holders on the branches. Then place the candles in the holders and light them or turn them on (if they are LED candles). And TA DA! You have a beautiful branches centerpiece!

Easy, beautiful centerpieces. All you need is vases, pea gravel (or any stones really), tree branches (these are birch), hanging votive holders, and candles (these are led candles).

I love both of the centerpiece ideas because they can be used for weddings in any season, are inexpensive to make, and EASY to make!

If you choose to use them in your wedding, please feel free to share your photos!
